Intercity buses are general-purpose vehicles, along with city, suburban and tourist buses. They are designed to transport passengers over long distances, more than 50 kilometers, within one country.
Intercity buses are passenger vehicles combining several features.
Intercity buses have to meet a set of characteristics:
Reliability. This type of transport is subjected to higher requirements in comparison with city buses, as carrying out repairing works during long trips is problematic.
Comfortability. The salon of buses is equipped with soft seats with adjustable recline, located at a distance, which allows conveniently put his feet, as well as having seat belts. In addition, the saloons of different levels of comfort can have lighting, air conditioning system, heating equipment, panoramic windows, toilet, mini or full kitchen, checkroom, water dispenser.
Availability of additional options. Intercity buses must have a large compartment for luggage, places (most often it is shelves) for hand luggage. Perhaps the presence of a speakerphone system, audio and video system.
In addition, all types of passenger buses must meet the following requirements:
- equipment with a traffic control system;
- comfortable and securely fastened handrails;
- availability of at least two fire extinguishers and a first aid kit;
- the presence of the main and emergency exits, hatches, the number of which varies depending on the class (size) of the bus;
- buses with a higher capacity are equipped with emergency switches;
- near the entrance door there should be a sticker with information about the number of seats;
- An ergonomic seat for the driver.
